A Holly Jolly December
“It's the most wonderful time of the year
With the kids jingle belling
And everyone telling you be of good cheer
It's the most wonderful time of the year
It's the hap-happiest season of all
With those holiday greetings and gay happy meetings
When friends come to call
It's the hap-happiest season of all”
— says the famous song by Andy Williams
In a country like India where summer is a bummer, monsoon is a humid summer, and spring and fall go unnoticed, winter is a requested respite for many in this country and December doesn’t disappoint Indians. The excruciating summer can be disorienting, but in winter the temperatures in India do not fall to extremes in most parts, thus considered pleasant to go out and explore the landscapes, plan picnics, spend time outdoors, and enjoy sports under the beautiful winter sun.
For children, it is the Santa-season, and indeed the time to be holly and jolly. As December envelops our world in a warm embrace, and the air fills with the promise of festivities, Central Modern School, Baranagar, unites with hearts aglow to celebrate the most enchanting time of the year – Christmas! Our school campus transforms into a winter wonderland, adorned with twinkling lights, festive decorations, and the unmistakable scent of joy in the air. Literary and cultural competitions are planned around this joyous occasion. Christmas carols are heard across corridors as children gear up to celebrate the birth of Christ.
Sporting activities gain all the momentum, thanks to the no-sweat season. Students are encouraged to spend time outdoors practising for the Annual Sports Meet. Badminton is a favourite during winter across ages, even though at Central Modern School, children play all sports throughout the year. The added enthusiasm pre-winter-break is a spectacle to experience.
Apart from the holiday magic, winter in our city is incomplete without blooming gardens and seasonal flower shows that lift our spirits with warm colours of joy. Central Modern School, Baranagar, celebrates the birthday of one of its founding fathers, Mr. Nabarun De, with a plantation drive on December 20. Students plant sampling on the beautiful earth (campus and beyond) during the Green Day extravaganza to glorify it for us and for generations to come.
